Camel Midge

more about “Tying the Camel Midge“, posted with vodpod

This is my stepdaughter Crystal Graham tying one of my favorite patterns for Norfork at the ‘07 Conclave in Mountain Home and thanks to FlyFish Video for the result

I think this was basically my mate and fellow guide Chad Johnson’s pattern But Crystal’s a dab hand at whipping them out with the thin profile I really like. This time last year we had a customer bring in a photograph of some midges he had pumped from a trout’s stomach. He must have had a pretty good macro camera as they were very clear, and in everyone there was a clearly defined copper sheen about the thorax.

So no wonder it works. It particularly like it on overcast days but it works most of the time

Hook: Fine wire scud hook 18 -20

Bead: Tungsten Copper bead to suit.

Thread: Uni 8/0 Camel Thread.

Rib: Ultra Wire Black Small.
